What the free routes don't produce: one document, tied to one address, listing every recorded hail and wind event within 1, 3 and 10 miles with the size, the date, the measured distance, the official NWS narrative and a citation for each — and, if you name the disputed date, that date's records called out in plain English. What "hail reports by address" really means
This is the part most services blur, so read it before you pay anyone anything. NWS hail records are point observations: a spotter, deputy, or member of the public reported hail of some size, at some location, at some time. The record is only as dense as the people who reported it. A quiet rural county can take real 2-inch hail with zero reports; a suburb can generate fifteen reports from one storm. So:
- An absence of reports is not evidence of no hail. A report a mile away is strong evidence hail fell on your street; no report anywhere within 10 miles means nobody told the NWS.
- Distance is the number that matters. "Hail in your county" is nearly meaningless in a dispute. "1.25-inch hail recorded 0.4 miles from the property on June 8" is not.
- Pre-1996 records often carry no coordinates at all — they match at county level, and we show them as county-level with no distance rather than inventing one.
NWS records are point and path observations. The absence of a nearby report does NOT prove that no hail fell at this address — it means no observation was logged nearby. A report of nearby hail documents the event; it does not by itself prove damage to a specific structure.

A ZIP code is a mail-delivery area, not a point, so a ZIP lookup counts recorded events within a few miles of the ZIP's centroid — which means neighboring ZIPs overlap, and a report counted for yours may have fallen in the next one over. Common questions
Are there hail reports for my exact address?
No — and no service has them, including NOAA. The National Weather Service records hail where a trained spotter, law enforcement officer, or the public reported it, at that observer's coordinates. Nothing is recorded "at" a house. The answerable question is what was recorded near the address, how near, and how big — which is what a by-address lookup measures: every recorded event within 1, 3 and 10 miles.
Can I look up hail by address for free?
Yes. A per-address document listing every officially recorded hail and wind event near a property, with the size, date, distance, official NWS narrative and a citation for each one, plus a plain-English statement of what the record does and does not show. It exists because insurance claims are disputed on the date of loss, and an adjuster will only accept the official record. Ours is $29 and generates in about a minute.
How do I look up hail by ZIP code?

How current are the records?
The official NCEI Storm Events record is final through 2026-02-28; storms newer than that are covered by the SPC preliminary daily reports, loaded nightly through 2026-07-24. Preliminary rows are labeled as preliminary everywhere they appear — they are what NWS received that day, before reconciliation.
Does a recorded hail report prove my roof was damaged?
No. NWS records are point and path observations. The absence of a nearby report does NOT prove that no hail fell at this address — it means no observation was logged nearby. A report of nearby hail documents the event; it does not by itself prove damage to a specific structure. A record proves hail of a given size was reported near the property on a given date. Damage is an inspection question. Anyone selling you "proof of damage" from weather data is overselling it.
